Geothermal Heating explained

Geothermal heating systems use the constant temperature of the earth to extract heat. Basically, the energy of the sun heats the earth and even when it is cold outside, the temperature of the earth remains above zero degrees.

There are many different geothermal systems. The one that is best for you depends on your location. Geothermal systems can be installed on your land provided you have at least 3-4 acres. But the MOST efficient systems can be installed anywhere provided you  have access to adequate and reliable water supply through a well or in some cases a lake.

Use the guide below to learn about the different geothermal systems and which one may be the best for your home!

Well Water System: Open Loop

If your property has a drilled well, an open loop geothermal system may be the best and most simple system for you.

Most drilled wells with adequate water supply reliably provide year round water temperature at 46 degrees. This makes it easy to heat your home even on the coldest Northern Ontario days!

Lake  or  Pond water system: closed or open loop

This system is ideal for properties that front a lake, pond or river.

Best suited for closed lake loop systems.

Trenches are dug into the ground to allow for the placement of sealed piping. The earth warms or cools the water leaving the system on a continuous cycle.
